Cal 40

Le voilier Cal 40 est un monocoque habitable de croisière, construit par le chantier Jensen Marine en États-Unis. Ce voilier Quille fixe, gréé en Sloop en tête, réalisé par l'architecte naval C. William Lapworth avec un tirant d'eau maximum de 1.70 m. La production a démarré en 1963 et s'est terminée en 1971. 108 exemplaires du bateau ont été produits.

Présentation

The accolades for this particular boat are many. Certainly one of the most influential designs and successful racing boats ever. With 160 built, it was also a commercial success for Jensen Marine.
Less mention is made of the man, George Griffith, who actually commissioned the design, and agreed to back the construction of the first ten boats in order to get his own built.

There is a single example of a raised deck Cal 40 similar to the Cal 25 & 28. Jensen Marine got hoodwinked into building it with the promise of 2 more owners to buy copies, but they backed out at the last minute, so only the one was built and delivered.
